Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How does this online learning program work?

This is a self-discovery program which encourages staff to take control of their own learning and to utilize their lifelong learning skills through exploration and PLAY. There will be no classes or workshops offered to support this program, although there will be a weekly brownbag forum where participants are invited to ask questions and share their experiences. Staff are also encouraged to work together and share with each other their discoveries, techniques and "how to's" both in person and through their blogs.

  • Is this program open to all EKU staff or just some?

Currently, this program is open to ALL EKU Libraries staff regardless of position and status (full and part time). If you are not a member of the EKU Libraries staff, you are welcome to follow along, however the library cannot award you any staff prizes for completion. If you would like your blog to be linked on our Participants page, send email to ekulibrarylearning at gmail dot com.

  • How long do I have to complete the program?

The Learning 2.0 @ EKU Libraries kicks off on July 2. You are not required to complete the week's exercies by the end of the week that they are introduced. To be entered to the prize drawing, however, you need to complete all the exercises by the end of the 2007 fall semester. Those who complete all the exercises will be eligible to win one of two or three cool prizes at the end!

  • How do I track my progress in Learning 2.0?

Each staff member that chooses to participate in this program will be required to keep a blog to track their progress and will also need to register each item completed by sending an email to ekulibrarylearning at gmail dot com. Beginning with lesson 3, your progress reports must contain a link to the relevant post from your blog. You can simply click your blog post's title and it links only to that specific blog. You can then copy the web address and paste it to your the message you are going to send to ekulibrarylearning@gmail.com.

  • If I'm not an EKU Libraries staff member, can I still participate?

Yes, by all means. However, EKU Libraries cannot award you any incentives or prizes for completion. You can track your progress by reading the schedule on the Things list, and if you would like us to include your blog on our participants page, please send email to ekulibrarylearning at gmail dot com containing a link to your blog. We also welcome participants from other libraries to join in the fun and follow along!

  • Will there be any training classes offered to show staff how to do this?

Although this is a self-directed learning program, there will be a weekly brownbag forum where participants are invited to ask questions and share their experiences. If you feel you need assistance with an item, you are encouraged to be resourceful and to find a co-worker or another staff member who can help, including members of the planning committee. Reading other staff member's blogs can help, too.

  • I've seen the list of the Things on the website, but how do I know what to do with them?

Each week, two or three posts will be added to the Learning 2.0 website listing details about the discovery exercises for that week. The reason for this staggered approach is to allow participants the ability to focus each week on a different area without feeling overwhelmed.

  • Can I work ahead through the list of items on my own?

Yes, of course. You are encouraged to self-direct your discovery process, especially by working ahead on your own!! However, if you do work ahead on some items, be sure to check back on the exercise details for each item once they are posted so you can be sure to receive full credit for its completion.

  • What if I need help - who can I call?

You are highly encouraged to talk to other library staff about your progress--we're all in this together! The members of the planning team will also welcome your questions at the weekly brownbag sessions; watch your email for details.
