Hi all,

Last week, you received an email announcing that Learning 2.0 @ EKU Libraries was coming (thanks, Brad!).  I’m excited to announce that it’s time to get started!  Please read below for more information:

Q. How do I get started?

A. Jump right in!  Read the first entry in the program’s weblog, titled “Let’s Discover and Have Fun!” at http://ekulibrarylearning.blogspot.com/2007/06/1-lets-discover-and-have-fun.html.

Q. OK, then what?

A.  Read more about the program at its web site:  http://ekulibrarylearning.pbwiki.com.  Be sure to take a look at the program schedule (http://ekulibrarylearning.pbwiki.com/things) and read the Frequently Asked Questions (http://ekulibrarylearning.pbwiki.com/FAQ).

Q.  What’s in this for me?

A.  Fun!  Also, the Coordination Team thinks that it’s important that library faculty and staff know about these technologies that many students use every day.  Some of these technologies can be used very effectively in a classroom setting.  If you complete all the lessons in the program, you will get a certificate of completion and be put into a drawing to win a cool prize!

Q.  Won’t this take a lot of time (that I really don’t have)?

A.  Not really.  Each lesson is designed to take 15 minutes or less to complete.  There will be no more than 4 lessons each week, totaling an hour, plus time for you to write and post your response.  The lessons don’t have to be completed in the week that they are introduced, so if you fall behind, you can catch up later.  There will be 4 weeks of catch-up time built into the end of the program.

Q.  I’m still not convinced.

A.  That’s ok.  If you’re not curious about Web 2.0 or think that this is for you, it’s ok, it’s not required.  This program is being offered as a professional development opportunity for all library faculty and staff.

Q.  How do I let the planning team know I am doing this?

A.  Send an email to ekulibrarylearning@gmail.com to indicate that you are participating.  Beginning with lesson 3, you will be required to write a brief blog post about what you have learned and send a link to your blog posts to this address.

Q.  When’s the deadline again?

A.  All exercises must be completed by October 8 to be eligible for completion and prize drawing.

I want to thank the members of the Learning 2.0 planning team:  Cindy Judd, Julie George, Nicole Montgomery, Kelly Smith, Margaret Foote, Brad Marcum, Melissa Schutt, Todd King and Ning Zou!

I hope to see you online!
